Tour of Oldenzaal from Het Stift

You start at De Stiftsjuffer, at a special location. The Stift near Weerselo is a monastery where, from the fourteenth century, unmarried noble ladies were provided with a good education. This cycle route first leads you through the beautiful park-like landscape east of Oldenzaal, a former textile town. You will find numerous country estates around the city. This way you can discover the Egheria Estate with the 85 meter high Tankenberg, the highest point in Overijssel. The Lutterzand is intersected by the Dinkel, a stream that has carved beautiful steep banks into the landscape. In Oldenzaal you will find the St. Plechelmus Basilica, which is said to have been founded by the itinerant missionary Plechelmus in the 8th century. On the west side of Oldenzaal you cycle through the Hulsbeek recreational area with its beautiful lakes.
