Tour of Oldenzaal from Het Stift

You start at De Stiftsjuffer, in a special location. Het Stift near Weerselo is a monastery where unmarried noble ladies were provided with a good education from the fourteenth century onwards. This cycle route first takes you through the beautiful park-like landscape east of Oldenzaal, a former textile town. Around the city you will find numerous country estates. For example, you will discover the Egheria estate with the 85-metre-high Tankenberg, the highest point in Overijssel. The Lutterzand is intersected by the Dinkel, a stream that has eroded beautiful steep banks into the landscape. In Oldenzaal you will find the Sint-Plechelmusbasiliek, which is said to have been founded by the itinerant missionary Plechelmus in the 8th century. On the west side of Oldenzaal you cycle through the Hulsbeek recreation area with its beautiful lakes.
