Tour of Ommen Forestry and the Engbertsdijksvenen

Your cycling route starts at Camping De Koeksebelt. You immediately dive into Het Laer. In Boswachterij Ommen you drive straight through the vast greenery. How wonderful it is to travel for miles here in the forests and between the grasslands! In hamlets such as Junne and Beerze, time seems to have stood still: you can see old thatched Saxon farms and ash trees. Then you enjoy the views of the beautiful Engbertsdijksvenen. The raised peat at Vroomshoop and Geerdijk was mined from the mid-nineteenth century, because the Twente textile industry needed peat as a cheap fuel. Around junction 88 you drive through the Earlier Achterbroek, an ancient landscape of meadows, hedgerows and bushes. Especially beautiful in the summer, with the beautiful flowers in the fields.
