Tour of Gorsselse Heide

Your route starts at Family Restaurant De Zessprong. From here you can walk straight into the Gorsselse Heide, southeast of the Gorssel. For decades this was a military shooting and training area. There used to be extensive heathlands here that were used by farmers in the area for various purposes, but nowadays there are also forests to be seen. About a hundred years ago there were mainly pine trees, but the coniferous forest is slowly developing into a mixed deciduous forest, where birch and oak also grow. You will also see some fens such as the beautiful Lutea fen, with special vegetation. As many as 51 of the 71 species of dragonflies found in our country live here! From the end of the 18th century, the area was used as a military training ground, for example for the hussars from Deventer and Zutphen.
