Walking stage 1: Bergeijk - Waalre | Liberation Route Brabant

Impressive heroic deeds and gruesome events alternate on this cycle route. You explore the area that served as an emergency landing site for Allied pilots with damaged aircraft, earning Peel the nickname 'Death Valley'. This 47-kilometre route takes you to a museum farm where an English field marshal once stayed. You will also pass a castle that was still under fire after the liberation. Along the way you will gain in-depth insights into the defenses of both the Dutch and German armies.

The route takes you past historical places, marked by courage, sadness, fear and hope. Soldiers, residents, refugees and occupiers saw their lives change here. Consider what happened during the war in North Brabant and in these places in particular.
