Description
The Winterswijk National Landscape surrounds Winterswijk with characteristic ash trees and small-scale plots with groves, avenues, hedgerows and raised bogs in between. Between the nature reserves you will find old farms and small villages and towns.
Cross-border nature reserves
From the starting point of the route you set course for Winterswijk. You will pass De Olliemölle. This double watermill was restored in 2014 and now houses apartments on both sides of the stream. This mill complex is one of the best-known and most photographed places around Winterswijk. Then you cycle through the small-scale landscape to the German border. Just across the German border you cycle through the town of Oeding and through the Burlo-Vardingholter Venn und Entenschlatt, a raised moor area of approximately 100 hectares with growing raised bogs, peat ponds and moist heathlands. At the edges of the peatlands you cycle through grassland and moist forests with oak and birch.

Tasting history
You can not only enjoy good food in the Berenschot Water Mill, but also taste history. This watermill was built in the seventeenth century on the Boven Slinge as part of the Plekenpol manor. The mill was closed from 1960 to 1984 due to a major flood. The mill was subsequently restored on a large scale and is now operational again.
