Tour of the Twente scenery around Albergen

Your route starts at Het Anker Bar & Food. In the Almelo area you walk through a typical Twente landscape of small forest areas, meadows, fields and streams. You will also come across the typical wooded banks and hedges. These used to be used to keep cattle on pasture, before barbed wire was invented. Nowadays they provide good shelter for deer, stone martens and breeding birds. The Fleringer Mill is located between Albergen and Fleringen. This mill was built in 1846 as an oil-grain mill. There was already a water mill nearby, but it often did not have enough water to grind. That is why there was a need for a windmill. The current mill was built to replace a corn mill that burned down in 1844.
