Friesland could also have been called Fietsland. With its watery polder landscape, rich cultural history and ancient towns, it is wonderful to cycle here. This route takes you through Sneek and the surrounding area.

Old mansions
It is not without reason that the picturesque Sneek enjoys a protected cityscape. One of the oldest sights is the Martini Church, which was built in the eleventh century with tuff stone on a mound. The current building dates from 1498. In Broek and Goingagijp you can still admire authentic Frisian bell towers at the churches. Terhorne is located on the corner of a reclaimed land from the twelfth century. According to the residents of this village, the children's book series De Kameleon is set here.

Frisian lakes
In addition to beautiful old villages and towns, you will of course also find a lot of water in Friesland. You cycle along the Langweerderwielen and the Sneekermeer. On the banks you see waving reed collars, and on the water you can spot many birds, pleasure yachts or skûtsjes. A nice moment to take a break and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Joure coffee city
What time left? The old center of Joure is also fun to cycle through. Joure is known as the town where Egbert Douwes started a shop selling colonial goods such as coffee in 1753. In 1780, father Douwes transferred the company to his son: Douwe Egberts. The rest, as they say, is history, because DE is now the largest coffee company in the world. Speaking of history: in Joure you also pass the Groene Molen, a polder mill from 1800.
