Enjoy along the Lek

Fort Everdingen
The route takes you over winding dikes and polder roads. You have beautiful views over orchards and over the meandering river Lek, which forms the border between Utrecht and Gelderland. Fort Everdingen dates from 1847 and its function was to hermetically close off the high-lying passage of the Lek dikes and the floodplains. Werk aan de Groeneweg is located on the other side of the Lek, this fort was built at the beginning of the First World War.

Quiet nature
Along the Lek you cycle through some special nature reserves. Above Culemborg you drive through the Goilberdingerwaard, a bird-rich floodplain area that largely consists of flower-rich grassland and reed land, although pollard willows and hawthorn bushes also grow there. Just below Schalkwijk you pass a former medieval castle that was demolished at the end of the eighteenth century. Now there is a walking park with a garden complex. After your route you can enjoy a delicious lunch or coffee and cake at Eethuis Ster in the Kersentuin.

How to get to Eethuis Ster in the Kersentuin
Coming from junction 64, you cycle along the Zuid canal dike, pass under the two bridges and it is 800 m to the Eethuis. After passing the bridges you will find a reference to junction 14 left onto the railway embankment. Then go straight on for another 400 meters and on the left you will find Eethuis Ster in the Kersentuin. You can then continue the Trip (1000 m) until the intersection with the Korte Uitweg on the left, where the junction route comes from.

Coming from junction 14 (Lange uitweg or Schalkwijkse Wetering) after the roundabout you will find a reference to turn right (Korte Uitweg) for number 64. However, if you turn left into the Trip, you will find Eethuis Ster in the Kersentuin after 1000 m. Then you turn right along the canal and after 400 m you come back to the point that refers to node 64. Nr 64 is 800 m from the Eethuis.
