Walking through the Vrachelse Heide

This walking route takes you through the Vrachelse Heide, a nature reserve above Breda. You mainly walk through coniferous forest, although you will also see oak thickets and some heath and drifting sand fields. It is wonderfully quiet walking in the Vrachelse Heide, ideal for taking your mind off things or having a nice chat with your fellow hikers. In the middle of the forest you pass the Schans at the Pannenhuis. The name refers to a house in a so-called panne, a pan-shaped depression. During the Disaster Year 1672, soldiers from England, France and Germany were housed in this Pannenhuis. A little further on you can look through the trees at the Put van Caron, a lake that was created by sand extraction. You walk back through the forest to Brasserij Hoeveneind. Time for a cozy terrace and a tasty snack.
