Cycling through the Ooijpolder

This route takes you to the Gelderse Poort above Nijmegen. From Beek you descend to this beautiful river area. You will soon drive past Het Meer, a waterway that flows into the Waal near Nijmegen. Cycling along the rippling water, you see the vast meadows of the Ooijpolder on one side, and the wooded Nijmegen moraine on the other side. Further on you pass through the hamlet of Tiengeboden and through the Greenlands, a water-rich nature reserve. You will also pass some authentic mound farms that remind you of the time when the dikes offered less security against the rising river water. From the dike you have a beautiful view over the Waal. Via a shortcut through Germany you drive back onto the moraine. The route ends with a meal at De Heksendans.
