Hike Besthmenerberg

South of Ommen you take a varied walk through a quiet region. First you walk on a low-traffic road to Besthmen. You pass some beautiful old thatched farmhouses. Then you walk up the Besthmenerberg: a 34 meter high lateral moraine. You walk through a moorland to a watchtower that offers you a beautiful panorama of the area. You walk through the woods to a monument to Camp Erika. This penal camp was located here from 1942 until the end of the Second World War. Further on you pass the Besthmenermolen, a corn mill from 1862. The last part of the route you walk on an unpaved path through a wonderfully quiet deciduous forest. Back at't Laarbos Pannenkoeken & Meer you can enjoy a drink and a delicious meal.
