Your bike tour begins, and in the heart of the forest, you'll find the Chapel of the Holy Oak, a particularly atmospheric spot. In 1406, two shepherds are said to have found a statue of the Virgin Mary in the Beerze stream here and placed it in an oak tree. The Oirschotse Heide is a large area of heathland and drifting sand, used as a military training ground. The area is usually freely accessible during the day. Then you'll turn off towards the Landschotse Heide. This nature reserve is known for its many dragonfly species—nearly 30 of them. They are attracted to the open water, such as the Wit Hollandven. Cows often graze on the heath, a beautiful sight.
