Description
The Veluwe is a vast area that can be divided into various National Parks. This route takes you along the edge of De Hoge Veluwe National Park. This nature reserve consists of heathlands with fens, forests and a drifting sand area. Explore these varied landscapes by bike and be amazed.
De Hoge Veluwe National Park
From the village of Hoog-Soeren you quickly cycle into De Veluwe. De Hoge Veluwe National Park was originally a wooded area, just as it largely is now. Logging and grazing created heathlands and drifting sand areas in this park. Later the entire park was planted with trees again. The drifting sand areas were then in danger of disappearing, which is why an area in the middle of the park was deforested again. So it took some effort to create the varied nature reserve that is De Hoge Veluwe. During your bike ride you can visit the Lana Mariana Mill and the Ruitersmolen water mill.
Hotel Hoog Soeren
At the end of the route you return to Hoog Soeren. Here you can have a bite to eat or a drink at Hotel Hoog Soeren. Of course you can also stay overnight. Sleep in and explore other areas of the Veluwe the next day with route 115547 or route 139553.
Mill splendor in the Veluwe
The Lana Mariana Mill is located just outside Harskamp. This mill has been here since 1739 and before that the mill was in the middle of the village. Since 1998 the mill has been used as a residence. So you cannot view the mill from the inside, but the mill is also beautiful from the outside. The Ruitersmolen in Beekbergen is also worth seeing. This watermill is still used for voluntary milling and demonstrations of paper making are given.
