The Old Dutch Waterline
The Old Dutch Waterline emerged in the Golden Age (1600-1700). A layer of water of approximately 40 by 50 cm would make the land impassable for an army and unnavigable for ships. This line ran from North Brabant to the former Zuiderzee near Muiden. There were fortified towns and smaller posts on the passages - such as dikes and roads.
