This ANWB cycle route goes over the Zuiderwaterlinie from Geertruidenberg to Breda, Terheijden and Wagenberg.
The story:
Ever since the Eighty Years' War - more than 450 years ago - water has been used as a means of defense in Brabant. This is where the first real water line in the Netherlands is located. After the battle against the Spanish, this line served against the French and Belgians, until fighter planes in the Second World War put an end to the Zuiderwaterlinie as a military defense line.
