Description

Your route starts at Brasserie Dertien. Sion Abbey is a Cistercian abbey of the Trappist order in Diepenveen. The monastery was founded in 1883 and it is the only Trappist monastery in the Netherlands located above the major rivers. In 1935 the monastery became an abbey, and monks still live there. Hanseatic city Deventer is a gem on the IJssel. The Grote Kerkhof is dominated by the old town hall and the Lebuïnus Church. After Deventer you come to the IJsseldijk past De Haere Estate. There is an old manor here, but also part of the IJssel Line: one of the largest defenses built during the Cold War. Further on is Groot Hoenlo: an originally thirteenth-century manor. Further on there is another old manor: Boxbergen, from the seventeenth century.
