The most famous river in Europe
The Danube is almost 3,000 kilometers long. This makes the river not only the most famous, but also the second longest river in Europe. From its source in the Black Forest to Passau in Bavaria, the Danube flows through the beautiful landscapes of southern Germany. Follow the river against the current and discover extraordinary natural phenomena and surprising activities on and along the Danube. Here you make a true journey through time to the 'source of Europe' along all kinds of ancient cultural-historical sites of humanity. You will also pass historic cities with special sights.
The Danube begins as a small river in the Black Forest. During this tour you can search for the source of the river yourself at the place where the rivers Brigach and Breg meet. A few kilometers east you pass the 'Donauversinkung' at Tuttlingen. The Danube disappears completely into the soil here for more than 150 days a year. A little further on, the river resurfaces. Via an underground karst water system, the river flows into Germany's largest natural spring: the 'Aachtopf'. From there, the Danube water flows into Lake Constance, then into the Rhine and finally the river flows into the North Sea. A real European river.
