Klooster Weltenburg

One of the highlights along the Danube Cycle Route is the 'Weltenburger Enge' nature reserve. Weltenburg Monastery is located at the breakthrough of the Danube. The monastery has a brewery and is well worth a visit. Immediately behind Weltenburg Monastery, the river landscape changes. Over a distance of 4.5 kilometers, the Danube meanders between the rock faces of the 'Weltenburger Enge' up to 70 meters high. In 1978 the Council of Europe awarded the European diploma to the nature reserve of the same name 'Weltenburger Enge'? the first nature reserve in Bavaria with this special status. The diploma is a recognition of the great national importance of this area.
