Experience the charm of the Twente-German border area

You can cycle in peace and quiet in the Twente-German border area. This route takes you through the lovely scenic landscape on both sides of the border. You will also pass the old Singraven Estate.

Picnic at the Dinkel
The word Twente makes the heart of many cycling enthusiasts beat faster. And of course that doesn't just happen because of the hills that sometimes require extra effort. The green and varied landscape, the tranquility, the authentic church villages: it is not without reason that Twente is one of the nicest cycling regions. You pass the Dinkel several times, the river that meanders so beautifully through Twente. It provides nice places to have a picnic.

Near Oldenzaal you drive past the Tankenberg, the highest point in the province of Overijssel at 85 meters. Because of the beautiful surroundings, Oldenzaal once gave itself the nickname Glimlach van Twente. You also drive a bit through the pine forests of the Lutterzand. Just across the border you cycle through the bird-rich and moist grasslands that surround the ancient raised bog of the Syen Venn.

Singraven estate

You can admire some beautiful historic buildings on the fourteenth-century Singraven Estate. The manor, for example, dates from the seventeenth century, although it was renovated several times later. The Singraven watermill consists of three water wheels with several mills: an oil mill that currently houses a restaurant, a flour mill and a sawmill. The water mill originally dates from 1448. A gin distillery was built in it in the mid-seventeenth century. Later, around 1830, a sawmill was added to the mill. The oil mill was dismantled in 1900, while the other two mills continued to operate professionally until the mid-1960s.
