Experience the charm of the Twente-German border area

In the Twente-German border area you can cycle wonderfully quietly. This route takes you through the lovely coulisse landscape on both sides of the border. You will also pass the old Singraven estate.

Picnic on the Dinkel
The word Twente makes the heart of many a cycling enthusiast beat faster. And of course that is not only because of the hills that sometimes require extra effort. The green and varied landscape, the peace, the authentic church villages: Twente is not for nothing one of the nicest cycling regions. You pass the Dinkel a few times, the river that meanders so beautifully through Twente. It provides nice spots to have a picnic.

Smile of Twente
Near Oldenzaal you cycle along the Tankenberg, with its 85 meters the highest point of the province of Overijssel. Because of the beautiful surroundings Oldenzaal once gave itself the nickname Smile of Twente. You also cycle a bit through the pine forests of the Lutterzand. Just over the border you cycle through the bird-rich and humid grasslands that surround the centuries-old raised bog of the Syen Venn.

Singraven Estate

On the fourteenth-century Singraven Estate you can admire several beautiful historical buildings. The manor house, for example, dates from the seventeenth century, although it was later renovated several times. The Singraven watermill consists of three water wheels with several mills: an oil mill that now houses a restaurant, a corn mill and a sawmill. The watermill originally dates from 1448. A gin distillery was built in it in the mid-seventeenth century. Later, around 1830, a sawmill was also added to the mill. The oil mill was dismantled in 1900, while the other two mills remained in commercial operation until the mid-sixties of the twentieth century.
