Description
The Loosdrechtse Plassen is a Nature 2000 area. It is a special protection zone for birds, but also for plants and other animals. The ponds were created because ditches and ponds were dug in the original wet peat to drain the area.
You start your route at Flora Batava. You then cycle in a westerly direction to Utrecht. On your route to Utrecht you will pass Fort Tienhoven, Slot Zuylen and Fort aan de Klop. Then you go from Utrecht to the Maartensdijk. You will come across many beautiful sights such as Fort Blauwkapel. Fort Blauwkapel is a fort built in 1818-1821 as part of the new Dutch Waterline and is one of the largest forts of the line. If you continue cycling, you will pass through Nieuw- and Oud Loosdrecht. In Oud-Loosdrecht you can grab a delicious cup of coffee or tea at Restaurant in de Watertuin. If you continue the route, you will pass Fort Spion and then you will cycle back to Nieuwersluis. Here you can take a look at Fort Nieuwersluis. This fort became part of the New Dutch Waterline. You will now find special plants and animals. You continue with the route and you are back at Flora Batava. Hope you enjoyed your bike ride.
