Description
Vorden originated on a stream near a ford; an 'advantage'. In the Middle Ages, several prominent families settled in and around the village. Thanks to these noble families, Vorden now has a tremendous wealth of estates in its area. Estates full of colorful rhododendrons, romantic vistas and beautiful gardens. Vorden is rightly proud of its title 'Achtkastelendorp'. Only the two sturdy towers still remind us of the castle that was built in the 14th century, but unfortunately destroyed by Spanish troops in the 16th century. Now Hackfort is a stately country house that is lined in spring with white wood anemones, snowdrops, anemones, crocuses and wild hyacinths.
