Description
The IJmond has been an important strategic region since time immemorial. Many important buildings have been built over the centuries. For example, the Romans built all their forts here and during the Second World War a defense line was constructed by the Nazis. This cycling route takes you past the remains of the Atlantic Wall and the famous Defense Line of Amsterdam. A unique piece of history in the Netherlands.

From the boarding point in Velsen you cycle in the direction of Velserbroek. Along the way you will pass the Beeckestijn estate, an estate from the 18th century. Here you can stop for a stroll through the neatly landscaped ornamental gardens and leafy park forests. This way you can relax wonderfully. The route then takes you through IJmuiden, Wijk aan Zee, Heemskerk and Beverwijk. Be sure to take a break in IJmuiden and take a look at the harbor and take a walk on the beach. Eating fish here is definitely recommended.

Here you will learn more about the history of Midden-Kennemerland through prints, old maps, archaeological finds and utensils that were previously used in this region. In addition to the permanent collection, the museum also has changing exhibitions.
