Walking along the IJssel between Kampen and Zalk

More space for the IJssel
The starting point of the route is on the edge of IJsselmuiden. From here you walk across the bridge over the IJssel to Kampen. At high tide on the IJssel there is a risk of flooding for Zwolle, Kampen and the hinterland. Rijkswaterstaat is giving the IJssel more space in this area to increase safety. Measures that go with this include lowering the summer bed of the IJssel and digging a high-water channel. After about 13 kilometers you will pass Molen De Valk in Zalk. This tower mill was built in 1860. In the village you can also take a look at the St. Nicolaaskerk, which dates from the Middle Ages.

Sailing on the IJssel
From Zalk you walk to the banks of the IJssel, where you cross over to's-Heerenbroek by ferry. Please note that the ferry only operates from the beginning of April to the end of October. If you want to walk this route in the winter, you will have to adjust the route slightly. From's-Heerenbroek you walk through the vast, quiet hinterland back to IJsselmuiden.
