St. Nicolaaskerk

Call us Visit the website
The St. Nicolaaskerk is a Reformed church that was built around 1400 in Zalk. The church tower dates back to 1220. The church was built on the spot where a smaller church used to be. Over the centuries the church has fallen into disrepair. That is why from 1991 the restoration of the outside of the church was started. For example, the roof and walls were restored in these restorations. Later the interior of the church was also restored. The church was founded by the lords of Buckhorst and you can still see that in the interior. For example, you will find Buckhorst benches and the pulpit and the vicarians also date from that time. There is also a crypt in the church with graves of the Buckhorsters. At the Reformation in 1590, the church was purged of vicars, but the Buckhorsters' belongings and funerary monuments were spared.
