Tour of Grauwveen and Griendtsveen

Your route starts at De Brasserie Ysselsteyn. Nearby you will discover the German War Cemetery. The other side of the battle - the German - is clearly palpable here. A little further on you walk past the Grauwveen, which is part of the Natura 2000 area Deurnsche Peel & Mariapeel. You will see a beautiful combination of pieces of living raised bog, dry and moist heath, deciduous forest and swamp. There are also peat holes in the area. A little further on you will pass a special monument in the peat village of Griendtsveen, Munitiehuisje Griendtsveen. It owes its name to the roof, which used to be loose so that in the event of an explosion the roof would fly off and the rest of the building would be spared. It is unknown whether there was actually any ammunition in this ammunition house in Griendtsveen.
