Tour of Steile Oever, Eerde Castle and Archem

Your route starts at Bergzicht Camping and Chalet Park. You will soon pass the cut-off river arm of the Regge at the Steile Oever. The Eerde estate once covered 150 hectares, from the Vecht to the Regge. Although the estate has lost some ground, the castle is still just as impressive. House Eerde was already known in 1227 and was expanded into a castle in 1380. The castle was besieged, plundered, burned down and rebuilt many times, until it took its current form in 1715. Since 1934, an International School has been located in the former nobleman's home. The estate also has a hall house farm from the 8th century. You walk back along the Archemerberg, part of a moraine that was created during the last ice age.
