Kasteel Eerde

The current castle Eerde is a baroque building dating from 1715. The castle is situated between double canals and around the castle you will find a park with long avenues and wooded areas, laid out in the French landscape style. The interior of the castle is just as special as the outside. The inside of the house still looks almost exactly the same as it used to be. In the 14th century you already found a fortified house made of wood on the site of the castle. The resident was a notorious robber knight who terrorized the area from his castle. In 1380 his den of thieves was burnt to the ground by the Utrecht bishop. The current castle was built by order of an army commander from the War of the Spanish Succession. The building was owned by the same family for a long time. In 1933 a school was established in the castle. This school grew into the international school that can now be found in the castle.
