Tour of the Giethmen church path and Besthmenerberg lookout tower

Nearby, you'll find the old church path between Giethmen and Ommen. In the past, the residents of Giethmen walked this path to church twice every Sunday. They crossed the Regge River via the charming drawbridge, a true icon. Atop the 34-meter-high Besthmenerberg, a lookout tower offers magnificent views of the surrounding area. You'll see, for example, the Sahara, a 20-hectare sand drift. This was created by overgrazing. To prevent the drift, afforestation was usually implemented. Because the Sahara is freely accessible and frequented by children, among others, the sand drift is prevented from becoming overgrown. You return through the romantic Reggedal valley. The Regge River is now free to meander again—a beautiful sight.
