Description
The LF Waterline Route combines heritage and nature. The historic Dutch water lines were built to fend off the enemy by inundating huge tracts of land (inundation). Water as a means of defense, that could only have been devised by the Dutch! These unique chains of military structures have really enriched the landscape. The route is 410 km long and leads from Edam to Bergen op Zoom. You will discover the Defense Line of Amsterdam, the New Dutch Waterline and the West Brabant part of the Zuiderwaterlinie. You can still see numerous inundation channels, batteries and line dikes, attractive fortresses and fortified towns. Everywhere along the route you can taste the wonderful atmosphere at these historic places. A fascinating route if you want to know more about the history of the water lines. It all comes to life on this tour!
