Description

Your route begins at De Hoofdwacht, a historic spot in the historic center of Brielle (also called Den Briel). Brielle's largely 17th-century fortress is one of the best-preserved defenses in the Netherlands. Brielle was captured from the Spanish by the Geuzen on April 1, 1572. Afterward, the saying "On April 1, Alva lost his spectacles" became a cultural heritage site. The Historical Museum Den Briel is a highly recommended place to begin your visit. Here you can learn more about the history of the fortified town. In the charming streets, history seems to have stood still. From the water, you have a beautiful view of the fortified town of Brielle. You'll also pass the Vliegend Hert (Flying Deer), a grain mill dating from 1862.

Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
