Tour of Sancta Maria and Noordwijkerhout

Your route starts at EuroParcs Parc du Soleil, in the middle of the flower bulb fields. Where you now walk along the bulb fields, there used to be a small-scale mix of grasslands with hedgerows, dune fields and coppice fields. Not all of that original landscape has been dug up for flower cultivation. Between the park forest of Sancta Maria and the dunes you can still see how the area used to look. Along the ditches you can see plants such as pondweed, common elder and sea green wall. In Noordwijkerhout you pass the Witte Kerkje. The church originally dates from 1300. In 1508 a Gothic choir was added and the tower was raised. Low windows have been placed on the side of the nave where villagers with a contagious disease once had to attend mass.
