Tour of Sancta Maria and Noordwijkerhout

Your route starts at EuroParcs Parc du Soleil, in the middle of the flower bulb fields. Where you now walk along the bulb fields, there was once a small-scale mix of grasslands with hedgerows, dune fields and coppice fields. Not all of that original landscape has been excavated for flower cultivation. Between the park forest of Sancta Maria and the dunes you can still see how the area used to be. Along the ditches you see plants such as pondweed, whole leaves and sea green wall. In Noordwijkerhout you pass the White Church. The church originally dates from 1300. In 1508 a Gothic choir was added and the tower was raised. Low windows have been placed on the side of the ship where once the villagers with a contagious disease had to attend mass.
