Description

Your walk starts at De Kippesthee Koffie & Thee, a nice place to sit on a terrace before putting on your walking shoes. From here you walk to the Valtherbos. This forest was only planted a century ago, but there is a lot of history to be found: dolmens, burial mounds and Valthe Hiding Cave. This was never discovered by the Germans. Only two of the four covering stones of dolmen d35 can still be seen. The dolmen is oriented exactly east-west and stands on the edge of a pingo ruin from the last ice age. A pingo is a hill with ice underneath, when the ice melts the pingo ruin is created: a pool of water. The oldest trade route in Drenthe runs past this dolmen and the nearby Eppiesbargie burial mound.
