Tour of Slot Loevestein from Werkendam

Your route starts at SIS Lunch Boutique in Werkendam. Here you immediately get on the ferry to the other side of the Waal! You cycle along the water to Gorinchem. You will see beautiful historic buildings such as the Kapeltoren, the Dalempoort and four windmills. Nice to have a look around! The route also passes the beautiful centuries-old Loevestein Castle. This fortress is located in a strategic location, where the rivers Maas and Waal continue together as the Boven-Merwede. It became famous overnight when Hugo Grotius managed to escape from the correctional center in a book chest in 1619. In the museum you will learn all about his epic escape. Via Woudrichem you cycle back to the beautiful fortified town of Werkendam.
