Description
This cycling route starts in the old center of Hoogezand, at the Damkerk and takes you through 3 completely different areas. There is sufficient parking space in the Westerpark near the Damkerk. The starting point, intermediate point and end point is the Damkerk in Hoogezand.
Area 1 south of the Damkerk has the character of the old peat colonies and passes through Kielwindeweer and Kropswolde.
Area 2 NW of the Damkerk connects to it via Kropswolde and shows shipbuilding on the Winschoterdiep. Via the original peat extraction village of Westerbroek you will arrive through beautiful nature at one of the oldest lock ports in our country, Martenshoek. Via the filled-in old Winschoterdiep you return to the Damkerk and the route can be continued.
Area 3 , goes east towards the old centers of Hoogezand and Sappemeer. You cycle to the beautiful Borg Welgelegen via the beautiful Oosterpark, some old churches and the historic shipyard. Via a beautiful stretch through the landscape you will eventually return to the Westerpark near the Dam Church.
