Description

This walking route takes you through two special areas in the Hoeksche Waard. First you walk through the medieval Sint Anthoniepolder. From the Polderdijk you can see pollard willows, grasslands and the rippling water of the Binnenbedijkte Maas, a former river arm. The Sint Anthoniepolder is the only polder in the Hoeksche Waard that was not flooded during the infamous Sint-Elizabeth flood of 1421. Partly for this reason, there is still a Romanesque church from 1357 on the dike! You will also see the Antonymolen, a polder mill from 1842. Further on is De Hoop, a corn mill from 1822. From junction 57 you walk through the Oudeland van Strijen. This nature reserve consists of grasslands and fields. It is an oasis of peace and good bird watching. The route ends at Hoeksche Zuivel.
