This route automatically leads you past unknown gems and the real highlights of the northern Heuvelland. From historic Sittard to the most beautiful castles!
Your route starts in the lovely town of Schinnen. You cycle via the Geleenbeek valley to beautiful old Sittard. Park your bike here and walk across the Market! Then you discover Selfkant, the westernmost point of Germany. After WWII this area was given to the Netherlands, but in 1963 the Germans got it back. Once back in the Netherlands, stop at Nonke Buusjke: a half-timbered open-air museum where you really go back in time. A beautiful tranquil place.

Your route starts in the lovely town of Schinnen. You cycle via the Geleenbeek valley to beautiful old Sittard. Park your bike here and walk across the Market! You cycle straight through the Schutterspark (with Barefoot Path for enthusiasts!) to the Brunsummerheide. You will pass the visitor center, where you will learn all about the vast heathland, the forests and the sheep that graze there.
Then you cycle past Strijthagen Castle, in the beautiful Strijthagerbeek valley. Nearby, in the Anstelerbeek valley, you will see another beautiful spot: Erenstein Castle. Stop at Winselerhof, a 16th-century mansion for coffee or lunch. Hoensbroek Castle, a little further along the route, steals the show. This is the oldest and largest castle in the Netherlands, with more than 60 rooms!
