Description

Your route starts at Restaurant-Bar De Riete aan de Brink, the beautifully restored green village square of Dwingeloo. A little further on you will pass the former manor Oldengaerde. The first mention of the estate dates from 1420. In 1717, the manor house was radically renovated with a new facade. The second house was also built around this time. The houses are surrounded by a beautiful garden, which was designed after the garden of Versailles. Then you walk across the Dwingelderveld. This area is not a national park for nothing. In addition to typical heather plants such as common heather, bell heather, crow heather and sundew, you will come across the rare plants of legume and bell gentian. It is the last place in the Netherlands where the very rare peat butterflies still occur. Almost all Dutch reptiles are represented on the wet heathland.
