Description

Your route starts at Camping Huttopia de Roos. From here you walk across the Beerzerzand, on the edge of the Beerze Estate. On the southern edge of the area you will discover several meters of peat pits, with small dams in between. People from the area came here in the winter to cut peat for fuel. If the well filled up with water or the dam broke, the crossing was over. Next to the peat pits you can still see the sand piles from the covering sand layer that first had to be shoveled away. In the hamlet of Beerze you will see old thatched Saxon farms and ash trees. This is a real esdorp, beautiful to see! The hooves are loosely spread out. On the black wooden sheds you can see the characteristic straw wickerwork that you encounter along the Vecht.
