Description

Your route starts at Camping Huttopia de Roos. From here, you'll walk across the Beerzerzand, on the edge of the Beerze Estate. At the southern edge of the area, you'll discover meters-long peat pits, interspersed with small dams. Local people came here in the winter to cut peat for fuel. When the pit filled with water, or the small dam broke, the cutting was over. Next to the peat pits, you can still see the piles of sand from the cover sand layer that first had to be removed. In the hamlet of Beerze, you'll see old thatched Saxon farmhouses and ash trees. This is still a true esdorp village, a beautiful sight! The farms are scattered loosely. On the black wooden barns, you'll see the characteristic straw wickerwork you'll encounter along the Vecht River.
