Description

Your walking route starts with a cup of coffee at Apollo Hotel Veluwe De Beyaerd. From here you can walk across the beautiful Landgoed Hulshorst, where the coach house and the gardener's house dating from 1870 have been preserved. Then you walk on to De Essenburgh Castle, a fairytale castle from 1652. It is located in a beautiful place, between forests and vast moors. The castle was built by order of the noble Johan Coolwagen. This gentleman wanted to acquire a place within the Ridderschap van Veluwe with this prestigious status symbol. When this failed, he had to sell the castle to his creditors. The estate is laid out in the style of English landscape gardens and there is a monastery building of the Premonstratensians. In 1992 a second monastery was built for the female Norbertines.
