A tour of Landgoed de Essenburgh

You walk across the beautiful Hulshorst Estate, where the coach house and the gardener's house dating from 1870 have been preserved. Then you walk on to Kasteel De Essenburgh, a fairytale castle from 1652. It is located in a beautiful spot, between forests and vast heaths. The castle was built by order of the noble Johan Coolwagen. This gentleman wanted to acquire a place within the Ridderschap van Veluwe with this prestigious status symbol. When this failed, he had to sell the castle to his creditors. The estate is laid out in the style of English landscape gardens and there is a Norbertine monastery building. Also in 1992 a second monastery was built for the female Premonstratensians.
