Pancake route along the Twente border

From your starting point you cross the Berkel to Rekken. Here you will see beautiful churches and old farms. From here you can take a nice bike ride to the Buurserzand and the Haakbergerveen. The juniper bush is rare and protected in the Netherlands. The growth of this plant makes the Buurserzand special, but what is extra special is that they are more than 150 years old here! The area has a moist soil. The heathland plains, where cattle stroll around, are surrounded by beautiful forests. Just before the German border you will discover the Witte Veen, this heathland and forest area used to be a popular border crossing for smugglers. Get off for lunch at Hooge Esch Buurse Pannenkoekenrestaurant and then cycle to Oldenkotte: a hamlet right on the border with Germany.
