Tour of Rottige Meente and Weerribben

From the starting point you drive through the village of Kalenberg through the Weerribben. What is immediately striking: the silence in the middle of this national park! In this swampy swamp area you drive past endless reed fields, swamp forests and watercourses. It is also beautiful just outside the park. Here you cycle on car-free roads through a characteristic polder country of vast grasslands, beautiful old farms and countless ditches. Further on you pass the Rottige Meente, a nature reserve of water, reeds and flowering grasslands. This area is home to otters that have come to swim from the nearby Weerribben. De Reiger is a former polder mill from 1871. Nowadays the mill has a residential function. De Rietvink dates from 1855 and is a fully operational polder mill.
