Explore the green Twente

The tranquility and space in Twente are ideal for endless walks. This route takes you through the green surroundings of Denekamp, an area that is part of the Northeast Twente National Landscape. You can still find the small-scale ash landscape here as it already took shape in the early Middle Ages. Along the river Dinkel you walk through fresh marsh forests and moist grasslands. The area has a sloping character: beautiful for your eyes, a bit biting for your calves.

You only pass through two small towns: Berghum and Beuningen. This will certainly contribute to the feeling that you have left the hustle and bustle of the Netherlands behind. Make sure you have some provisions for the road. There are plenty of idyllic spots on your route to spread out a blanket and enjoy a picnic.

Just below Denekamp you walk through Landgoed Singraven. You can see here, among other things, a manor house that originally dates from the fifteenth century. In the seventeenth century, the then dilapidated manor house was replaced by a new building. Subsequent residents adapted the house to their taste, for example by extending the neoclassical facade by four metres. There is also a water mill on the estate on the Dinkel, which originally dates from 1448. Nowadays it houses a restaurant, among other things.

Towards the end of your route you will pass Havezate het Everloo. The original building probably dates from the thirteenth century, but was demolished in the early nineteenth century. The remaining foundation of this castle is now an archaeological monument. However, you can still admire the accompanying farm with stables from 1704.

You then walk into the adjacent Roderveld nature reserve. You walk here through forests with deciduous and coniferous trees and many ferns. Dead trees are not removed, so that mosses, mushrooms, tawny owls and black woodpeckers feel perfectly at home here. It provides you with beautiful pictures and a fitting end to your walk.
