This route takes you through an area that is almost entirely devoted to arable farming, horticulture and livestock farming. Get to know the peace and space in the head of North Holland by bike.

On the first part of this route you cycle around the Amstelmeer. You cycle over the dike between the Amstelmeer and the Wadden Sea. In summer it is teeming with windsurfers, kitesurfers, swimmers and pleasure boaters looking for relaxation in the water. The special thing about this lake is that it has salt water. This is because the water is connected to the open sea. Then you set course for Slootdorp and Middenmeer in the Wieringermeerpolder.

The war history of Middenmeer
At the beginning of the war, Middenmeer airfield near the village of Middenmeer was used by the first reconnaissance group of the Royal Air Force. Furthermore, the Wieringermeerpolder was flooded by the Germans during the Second World War. This was done to prevent Allied airborne landings. In December 1945 the polder was dry again and the village of Middenmeer was rebuilt.
