From nature reserve to city and dunes

The Hague and Scheveningen are known to everyone as the political center and a busy seaside resort. By bike you can make a nice tour along interesting sights and museums.

From the starting point in Wassenaar it is not far to Landgoed Voorlinden. The estate, which is already mentioned in the 16th century, has forty hectares and is dominated by a house from 1803. The house, the garage, the entrance gate and the service houses are all national monuments. The house was used by the Germans and by Canadian officers during World War II. In 1950, the PTT used the house as a training and conference center. In 2015, the current owner expects to open Museum Voorlinden, with an art collection of objects from the 20th century.

The center of Dutch politics is of course the Binnenhof. Nothing is certain about the origins of the Binnenhof, except that The Hague was created around the building complex. The Binnenhof is not only important from a political point of view, but the center is also of inestimable cultural-historical value and is in the Top 100 of Dutch UNESCO monuments. The Binnenhof consists of many imposing halls, such as the Trèveszaal, the Ridderzaal, the Hofkapel and the Keurhuis, but the Torentje is the most famous; the workplace of the Prime Minister.

Museum ship Hr MS Mercuur is located in Scheveningen. This former naval ship is a striking example of the rich maritime history. It is one of the last wooden ships of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Here you will discover what life was like on the naval ships between 1950 and 1970.
