The cycle route around the Reindersmeer is a route through the beautiful North Limburg nature. The Reindersmeer and its surroundings form an important, natural link between the Bergerheide and the Hamert. The area is wonderfully quiet and excellent to explore by bicycle, horse or on foot. The Reindersmeer was created by sand excavations. Nowadays it is part of De Maasduinen National Park and more than worth a visit. You will also come across the 23-hectare nature reserve De Baend along the way. The area was created by clay extraction for the purpose of raising the dikes after the Maas drained in'93 and'95. The rolling landscape is dotted with small streams and clay ridges. Many waterfowl feel at home here. The area is freely accessible and is grazed by Galloways and Konik horses.
