Explore the nature and the center of Lunteren

The Lunterse Buurtbos and the adjacent village of Lunteren are a beautiful setting for a walk. Notary van den Ham conceived and designed the Lunterse Buurtbos. It has become a forest with great cultural-historical value. Five national monuments are hidden between the trees: the Notarisbank, an American oak that was planted as a gift to the notary (there is a large fence around it), a lookout tower called De Koepel, an old water pump next to De Koepel and the avenue pattern in the form of a vining leaf branch. Lunteren itself also has a lot of tourism in the summer, because campsites can be found on the edges of the woods. The Oud-Lunterense Day takes place at the end of August. That's a nice time to visit Lunteren, because then the village goes back about 100 years in time and many residents exchange their modern clothing for a traditional farmer's outfit from the West Veluwe. During the walk you will pass two windmills. The octagonal ground sailer De Hoop was built in 1855 and is located on the Dorpsstraat in Lunteren. Parts of another mill in the Zaan region were probably used in the construction. Volunteer millers use the mill to grind grain into animal feed. The other mill is the Doesburgermolen. Built in 1620, this mill can be counted as one of the oldest windmills in the Netherlands. The closed standard flour mill still has an old tail construction and was probably an open standard mill in the past. The ground sail - the tips of the blades almost touch the ground - was built to replace a mill that was even older, which was shown on a map in 1568.
