Be surprised by Hasselt, the capital of Belgian Limburg. Cycle through the cozy old center of Hasselt and enjoy the atmosphere of this friendly city and the beautiful surroundings.
Herkenrode Abbey
The starting point of the route is in the center of Hasselt. Just outside the city you cycle through the grounds of Herkenrode Abbey. Nothing remains of the original twelfth-century abbey, but you can admire buildings here from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century. Then you pass Limburg Lavender. At this lavender farm you will spontaneously feel like you are in Provence. You can dream away among the lavender fields or take a tour of the garden and the distillation room. In the accompanying shop you can buy all kinds of products with the soothing scent of lavender.
Sights around Hasselt
During the route you will pass several beautiful sights: the water castle Mariaburcht Achter, the Wideux Castle and the Van Veldekemolen, a former water mill. A few kilometers further on you will cycle into the Herk Valley. Here you will see cultivated poplars, pollard willows and hedges. The cycle tour ends again in'the Capital of Taste\\\' Hasselt. Enjoy a tasty dinner and a Belgian beer in one of the many restaurants. You can also enjoy shopping in Hasselt.
