Cycling in Twente, around Reutum

Tubbergen is probably already known among motorsport enthusiasts. Motorcycle races on a street circuit were held here until 1984. Tubbergen is also a very Catholic community. This is reflected in the massive church attendance. There is a beautiful Roman Catholic Pancratius basilica in the village, which consists of a wide Gothic tower and a neo-Gothic nave. Alfred Tepe designed the building and the stained glass windows were made by a real glazier family. The route starts at Erve Deperman. From this B&B it is a few kilometers by bike to windmill Vier Winden. This beautiful tower mill from 1862 was used as a corn mill. The mill was thoroughly restored in 2003 and is used for grinding by a volunteer miller. The mill has a span of 22.50 meters and is still regularly put into operation. The next attraction is also a mill. The Gröbbemolen, or Fleringer Molen, is a corn and hulling mill that was built in 1846. There used to be a mill here dating from 1822, but it suffered the fate that befell many mills: it burned down. The round stone ground sailer is regularly put into operation by a volunteer miller. Incidentally, the mill hull is very special. In contrast to other round mills, the hull is not conically built up, but the first three meters rise vertically. Then you come to the Herinckhave estate, which also includes a water mill. The manor house is first mentioned in 1350, and the eighteenth-century house is surrounded by canals. There are also former farms and their associated agricultural barns on the estate. The manor house itself largely burned down in 1959, but was restored together with the chapel and the water mill in the 1970s. Part of the site, which is accessible via two avenues, has the status of Archaeological Monument. It is nice to spend the night at B&B Erve Deperman.
