Description
During this cycling tour you cycle straight from Belgian Limburg across the border to Maastricht. You drive through Lanaken, Maastricht and through the beautiful nature of Hoge Kempen National Park.
The Hoge Kempen
The starting point of the tour is in Oud-Rekem, the most beautiful village in Flanders according to Tourism Flanders. In the picturesque city center you can admire the water castle d\\\'Aspremont-Lynden, a restored museum church and the Ucover Gate from 1630. In the 17th century, the village became an imperial county with an alderman's bench and its own mint. From Oud-Rekem you cycle through Hoge Kempen National Park to Maastricht. The national park consists of a contiguous area of 5,700 hectares with beautiful coniferous and deciduous forests, colorful heaths, inland dunes, fens, streams and gravel ponds.
Domain Pietersheim
After cycling just over twenty kilometers, you arrive at Domein Pietersheim. This former princely castle park covers 76 hectares and you can visit the Pietersheim moated castle from the 12th century. You can take a break at the restaurant of Pietersheim Petting Zoo. Drink a fresh Belgian pint or a glass of soft drink here and enjoy fries or another dish. It is all possible in this cozy farm restaurant. The little ones can have fun in the playground or the petting zoo.
