Water castle Pietersheim in the National Park"Hoge Kempen\\\". The 76-hectare Pietersheim Castle Park with the 12th century Waterburcht is one of the six local gateways to the National Park"Hoge Kempen\\\" (5700ha of contiguous nature). The castle, recently awarded the Flemish Monument Prize, bears witness to the turbulent battles of the Lords of Pietersheim. A film shows the evolution from the medieval fortress to the castle from the 16th century to the site that you can visit today.. In the 16th century chapel, computer simulations illustrate the religious and judicial functions of the chapel. During the Spanish occupation it functioned as an ammunition depot. The visitor center offers information about the landscape of the National Park: you can learn why trees were felled, forests were redeveloped, hunting flourished, ...
